Been a couple of weeks gone, and I come back with a bit of a… dark turn?
Fox had the highest of aspirations at some point…
This is one of those “honest moments” surrounded by a bit of a joke. This one in particular came up after re-watching The Martian with my parents. A movie (and moreover a book) that is thoroughly steeped in the grand aspirations of Science and Space.
I don’t know how many people will recognize what’s going on in panel 2 here… But for people of a certain age, I imagine, it will be quite clear.
I think my favorite touch in this one, however, is Cid. Looking back and forth between Fox and Pixi. Seems it struck him as well…
Okay, now I am curious, whats going on in Panel 2?
First guess is whatever the ‘AASA’ equivalent of Challenger is. Of, course, that depends a good amount on how old Fox & co. are and how much the furry world directly correlates with the real one.
Rychen’s spot on here. Fox and friends are now mostly late 20’s to early 30’s. The recent history of the Hey ‘verse lines up fairly closely with our reality, though there is some distinct historical differences, and some technological acceleration starting around the late 80s.
