Insight of the Inebriant
So… It’s not that Fox is completely oblivious… More that when he doesn’t know what to do, he just does nothing. Which… Really isn’t any better.
Drawing two characters interacting is difficult, drawing them kind of slumped and laying one one the other… Turns out that’s even more difficult. >.< Still, I like how this turned out. Particularly I like how much Honey seems to be enjoying the attention Fox is paying her ears. (Despite his otherwise distracted state) That said, Kitty is off on her own for a bit. If you want to see what she's up to, go check out www.heykittycomic.com
Sorry, have to call BS on panel three. Not only does his language feel completely out of character, so does his conclusion. “She feels unwanted because I’ve been ignoring her, so the best thing to do is keep ignoring her?” That is not really something I could have seen Fox saying. He may be oblivious, but he has always had a kind heart and has never seemed likely to just turn his back on a friend in need, especially once he knows they are in need. I just can’t…..
Sorry, I need to stop now.
You’re not wrong, Fox is being both foolish and selfish. Still, the mistake that Fox is making, I think, is not quite the one you’re pointing at. He is being selfish on another level, in that he is applying to her what HE would want in her situation instead of trying to give her what SHE needs. Well intentioned as it may be, he is still wrong.
So here we at long last find out that Fox is not actually oblivious after all, he really knows exactly what is going on and is just being an [EXPLETIVE DELETED] on purpose. I, too, had been fooled by his act.
I don’t want to defend Fox. You’re right, he is being selfish and, pretty much, an asshole. Still, I think calling an act is ascribing too much intent and purpose to his avoidance. That said, you’re right. He has done wrong by those who care about him and those he claims to care about in turn.
This is just another example of how even self-aware, well-intentioned Fox is an idiot. Clearly Kitty could do better. 😉
Doing nothing isn’t going to solve anything! Fox needs to go forth and at the very least assure Kitty he still cares, even if it’s not in the way she would like. He seems to be in an interesting spot, I’m eager to see how this plays out
I do the exact same thing with a number of my friends. They hint that they want affection from me, and I freeze up. Then when they get disappointed and leave when I’m quiet because I don’t know how to react, I always leave them be. I can relate to this one pretty well 🙁
“Snerble!” Love it! 😀
The point they are both breaking down on is communicating. He and Kitty both care for each other, but are not telling each other. I do have to put a bit more on Fox here though cause he does not seem to have trouble talking to others. The hearts are good. No evil is intended. Just stumbling in a self made dark.
With respect, I have to disagree with an assumption hinted at in some of the comments here. The assumption is that Fox does care very much for Kitty. I’m not sure that’s true. Look at the dating history/attempts of Fox here. He has no hang-ups about sex, gender, species, age, strangers, lifelong friends, etc… If ANYONE showed half as much interest in him as Kitty has, he would have been all over that without a second of hesitation. Fox takes care of Kitty because she was a gift from someone he loved, he is her owner and caretaker. He likes her ability to travel through dimensions, but otherwise she is just a pet to him. People may love their pets, but most people will never be in love with them. Fox just doesn’t think of Kitty as a potential romantic interest. He does not think of her as a real person.
To be fair, remember that Kitty is special. She is unique in that she has a true consciousness (a ‘mind’), complete with true emotions and personality. No other anthroid has that. They are all tools, pets, servants, sexbots, etc… but they are not conscious people, they are just machines to be reprogrammed at will. To use ‘I, Robot’ as an anology, she is like Sonny, one singular unique being who is surrounded by the countless soulless robots of the same general design. Not everyone will be able to get over the fact that she is artificial.
Kitty deserves better. She deserves to be around people who can appreciate her for who she is, not just what she is. She needs the opportunity to find love with someone who can love her back. I just do not think Fox can accept being that person, unfortunately, which is why she needed to leave Hey Fox and begin her own new story.
